Barnard College receives a “D+” grade for the Amount of Foreign Funding Received. According to <a href="https://sites.ed.gov/foreigngifts/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">College Foreign Gift Reporting</a>, the total amount of foreign funding the university has received is $4,716.08 per current undergraduate student. Oftentimes, foreign parties will convey their influence by funding certain courses, activities, professors, and organizations on campus. In certain cases, universities must abide by restrictions dictated by foreign parties to receive funding. In addition, there have been <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/top-universities-took-billions-in-unreported-foreign-funds-u-s-finds-11603226953" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reports</a> that claim that universities underreport foreign funding. The figure above only takes into account reported foreign funding.

The category description says students will:

The source said, “The protest was organized after the United States vetoed a United Nations Security Council resolution for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire.”

Protests and Canceling Speakers

Barnard College receives an &#8220;F&#8221; grade for Boycotting, Divesting, and Sanctioning Israel (BDS). According to the <a href="https://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/campus-divestment-resolutions" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jewish Virtual Library</a>, since the start of the 2013-14 school year, the university’s student body has passed one piece of legislation that would require the university to divest from any Israeli company and from companies that do business with Israel.
Passing this type of legislation often puts a target on Jewish and pro-Israel students and communities, fostering an environment vulnerable to antisemitism.

In a broadcast by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), Mr. Philippe described his fantasy in which he writes about enthusiastically participating in a race war.
Mr. Philippe was being interviewed about his latest book, <a href="http://benphilippe.com/books/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“Sure I’ll Be Your Black Friend.</a>” During the segment, CBC host Ms. Talia Schlanger reads aloud a <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/barnard-college-instructor-discusses-blowing-up-and-gassing-whites-in-coming-race-war/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">portion of the book in which Mr. Philippe writes about gassing and blowing up his white friends</a>.
The clip begins with Ms. Schlanger describing how she was “shocked” and “disturbed” by Mr. Philippe’s book, before proceeding to read the following passage,

After finishing, Ms. Schlanger reveals to Mr. Philippe that she is Jewish and has grandparents that survived the Holocaust. Continuing, she offers an apology to Mr. Philippe, stating, “I’m so sorry that your experience with the world made you feel that way.”

He then attributes his urge to write about a hypothetical race war to “advanced world-building” caused by his admiration of the game, “Dungeons and Dragons.”
Mr. Philippe states that a race war is inevitable and the book merely describes the only logical outcome to America’s political and social instability. Mr. Philippe then rushes to assure the host that he is “not a violent person” and “loves all his white friends.”

<a href="https://barnard.edu/profiles/maria-rivera-maulucci" target="_blank" rel="noopener">María Rivera Maulucci</a> is the Ann Whitney Olin Professor of Education, Chair of the Education Program, and Director of the Barnard Noyce Teacher Scholars Program at Barnard College. According to Maulucci’s university profile, “Her interdisciplinary scholarship focuses on how teachers learn to teach for social justice and the role of language, identity, and emotions in teacher development.”
In an article for Barnard Magazine titled “<a href="https://barnard.edu/magazine/fall-2018/laboratory-inclusion" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Laboratory of Inclusion</a>,” Maulucci described how she incorporates inclusion into her teaching:
“We talk about class and ethnicity and gender and language and race, and how those things impact the learner, and how to draw on them as assets rather than seeing these things as deficiencies.”
Maulucci participated in a Columbia University and Barnard College <a href="https://bwog.com/2024/04/student-workers-and-faculty-hold-walkouts-to-demand-amnesty-for-students-and-faculty/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">faculty protest</a> titled “Rally to Support our Students and Reclaim our University” after student protesters took over the lawns of Columbia University in April 2024. The <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/04/23/us-news/columbia-professors-slammed-over-grotesque-rally-that-publicly-backed-ivy-league-schools-anti-israel-protests/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York Post</a> reported, “Scores of professors and staff appeared on the school’s steps to support the right of the ‘Gaza Solidarity Encampment’ to take over campus space and denounce the administration’s decision to have protesters arrested.”
Maulucci <a href="https://www.columbiaspectator.com/news/2024/04/23/over-100-faculty-members-protest-in-rally-to-support-our-students-and-reclaim-our-university/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">spoke at the walkout</a>, as seen below, saying:
“From the beginning of this crisis, our educational leaders have failed to provide balanced and caring messaging that acknowledges the real grief of our students and faculty on all sides of this issue.”
