Boise State University receives a “C” grade for the Amount of Foreign Funding Received. According to <a href="https://sites.ed.gov/foreigngifts/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">College Foreign Gift Reporting</a>, the total amount of foreign funding the university has received is $2,890.62 per current undergraduate student. Oftentimes, foreign parties will convey their influence by funding certain courses, activities, professors, and organizations on campus. In certain cases, universities must abide by restrictions dictated by foreign parties to receive funding. In addition, there have been <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/top-universities-took-billions-in-unreported-foreign-funds-u-s-finds-11603226953" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reports</a> that claim that universities underreport foreign funding. All students are <a href="https://www.boisestate.edu/academics-uf/uf-200-themes/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">required</a> to take a course from the category Foundations of Ethics and Diversity. In 2021, Boise State <a href="https://www.idahoednews.org/boise-state-university/amidst-student-complaints-boise-state-suspends-ethics-and-diversity-course/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">suspended</a> this requirement after students complained that they were being harassed for their personal views. The <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/boise-state-students-protest-professor-men-not-women-engineering" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Washington Examiner</a> reports that, in December 2021, hundreds of protestors demonstrated &#8220;in protest of a professor who argued that universities should prioritize men over women in fields such as engineering, medicine, and law.&#8221;

Protests and Canceling Speakers

Boise State University receives a “C” grade for Mask and Vaccine Mandates. According to the University Health Service <a href="https://www.boisestate.edu/healthservices/faqs/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">webpage</a>, &#8220;The State of Idaho does not require vaccines for students attending public universities or colleges, at this time.&#8221; However, a <a href="https://www.boisestate.edu/healthservices/vaccines/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Vaccines</a> page on the website says the Covid-19 vaccine is &#8220;recommended for all students, faculty, and staff.&#8221;
Masks are <a href="https://www.boisestate.edu/dept-communication/department-of-communication/covid-19-updates/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">optional</a> in all university owned or controlled spaces.

Boise State University receives a “D” grade for the Percent of Students Graduating with STEM Degrees. According to the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data Center (<a href="https://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/use-the-data" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IPEDS</a>), as of 2020, 3.21% of the current undergraduate student population graduate with a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) degree. Across the United States, students who graduate with STEM degrees tend to earn more on average than their other student counterparts.

According to the <a href="https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2018/crime-in-the-u.s.-2018" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Federal Bureau of Investigation</a>, the Boise, Idaho violent crime rate was 276.97 per 100,000 people in 2018, lower than the 2018 national average of 380.56 per 100,000 people. While campus safety is of utmost importance, it is also pertinent to consider the crime rates of the surrounding town or city as students often tend to venture off campus, especially after their freshman year.

Boise State University receives a “C” grade for Required Western Civilization Courses for Students. While the <a href="https://www.boisestate.edu/registrar-catalog/#/programs/SyUvZgcKv?bc=true&amp;bcCurrent=University%20Foundations&amp;bcItemType=programs" target="_blank" rel="noopener">university</a> does not have a required Western Civilization course or category of courses, its required Foundations of Social Sciences category does list three courses on Western Civilization that can be taken to fulfill the requirement. In his editorial for the <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article/uwm-prof-advocates-abolition-of-whiteness-/7864">New York Times</a> entitled “When May I Shoot a Student?,” Hampikian xasks when he can fire a warning shot in class when students try to correct his equationl, and writes about how the library would make a good shooting range:
&#8220;For example, if I am working out a long equation on the board and several students try to correct me using their laser sights, am I allowed to fire a warning shot? I am sure that it has not escaped your attention that the library would make an excellent shooting range, and the bookstore could do with fewer books and more ammo choices.&#8221;
