The <a href="https://www.bu.edu/antiracism-center/profile/ibram-x-kendi/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Center for Antiracist Research</a>, which was founded by critical race scholar <a href="https://www.professorwatchlist.org/professor/ibramxkendi" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ibram X Kendi,</a> is located at the university. As the author of “How to Be an Antiracist,” Kendi—whose birth name is Henry Rogers—has called for a constitutional amendment to ban “racist” speech. Upon its founding in 2020, the Center received a $10 million grant from then-Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey. At the same time, the university was promoting <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article?id=15935&amp;_gl=1*1anodhx*_ga*MzcxNjkwNzU3LjE2Nzc2OTc1MzI.*_ga_52173W50DL*MTY4MDE5OTM2NS4xMS4xLjE2ODAyMDA5MzIuNTQuMC4w">Black Lives Matter</a> rallies while restricting almost all other gatherings.

Boston University receives an “F” grade for Mandated Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity Training for Staff. According to the university’s website, <a href="https://www.bu.edu/compliance/training-sexual-misconduct-and-title-ix/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">new staff must undergo training</a> that includes discrimination and harassment prevention. Employees are not exempt if they took a similar course in the past year:
“Q &#8211; I have already taken a similar training course within the past year as part of my affiliation with a different organization/employer. Do I still have to take this training, or can I be exempted?
“Yes, you still have to take Boston University’s assigned training; No, you cannot be exempted based on your completion of a similar course for a different organization. Boston University’s employee trainings cover aspects of BU’s policies, procedures, processes, and resources that are specific to our institution. Therefore, another training from a different organization is not an appropriate substitute for the BU training. Additionally, the courses cover more issues than sexual misconduct and sexual misconduct prevention. They feature employment concepts, including discrimination and harassment prevention, creating an inclusive workplace, accessibility and accommodation issues&#8230;&#8221;

Mandated Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity Training for Staff

Boston University receives a &#8220;C&#8221; grade for having a Bias Reporting System but not a Bias Response Team. Offered through the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, <a href="https://www.bu.edu/diversity/resources/safety-and-ethics-reporting/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">students are encouraged to report</a> &#8220;discrimination, harassment, bias&#8221; and other violations of university policy.
According to <a href="https://speechfirst.org/bias-reporting-systems/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">SpeechFirst</a>, students are “encouraged to report ‘bias incidents’ to these boards (or teams) in the name of inclusion and tolerance, but it’s often unclear what the school considers ‘bias’ in the first place. Overly broad or vague definitions of bias put all kinds of speech at risk of being reported – even unpopular speech which is protected by the First Amendment.”

Bias Reporting System or Bias Response Team 

Boston University receives an &#8220;A&#8221; grade for the Ratio of Right-Leaning Clubs to Left-Leaning Clubs. Out of a list of 20 clubs (10 from each side), <a href="https://bu.campuslabs.com/engage/organizations" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the university</a> has four right-leaning clubs compared to four left-leaning clubs. Young Americans for Freedom, Young Americans for Liberty, the Israeli Club at BU, and the Federalist Society are the right-leaning clubs. Young Democratic Socialists of America, Students for Justice in Palestine, Queer Activist Collective, and Students for Reproductive Freedom are the left-leaning clubs.

Boston University receives an &#8220;F&#8221; grade for the Amount of Foreign Funding Received. According to <a href="https://sites.ed.gov/foreigngifts/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">College Foreign Gift Reporting</a>, the total amount of foreign funding the university has received is $20,271.00 per current undergraduate student. Oftentimes, foreign parties will convey their influence by funding certain courses, activities, professors, and organizations on campus. In certain cases, universities must abide by restrictions dictated by foreign parties to receive funding. In addition, there have been <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/top-universities-took-billions-in-unreported-foreign-funds-u-s-finds-11603226953" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reports</a> that claim that universities underreport foreign funding. The figure above only takes into account reported foreign funding.

According to the <a href="https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2018/crime-in-the-u.s.-2018" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Federal Bureau of Investigation</a>, the Boston, Massachusetts violent crime rate was 622.45 per 100,000 people in 2018, higher than the 2018 national average of 380.56 per 100,000 people. While campus safety is of utmost importance, it is also pertinent to consider the crime rates of the surrounding town or city as students often tend to venture off campus, especially after their freshman year.

Boston University receives an “A” grade for Required Western Civilization Courses for Students. While Boston University students are required to complete the <a href="https://www.bu.edu/academics/cas/programs/core-curriculum/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">courses listed</a> under the university&#8217;s &#8220;Core Curriculum,&#8221; few are centered around Western Civilization or U.S. History are offered. She tweeted, “Every MLK week I commit myself to not spending a dime in white-owned businesses. and every year i find it nearly impossible.” Her tweets criticizing white people forced the president of the university to write a letter on the Boston University website addressing the tweets.

<a href="https://www.bu.edu/antiracism-center/profile/ibram-x-kendi/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ibram X. Kendi</a>—Boston University professor, political commentator and author of “<a href="https://www.ibramxkendi.com/how-to-be-an-antiracist/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">How to be Antiracist</a>”—allegedly fired racial minorities from the Center of Antiracist Research (CAR).
Kendi, who founded CAR after the death of George Floyd, published a statement on Twitter explaining his decision to terminate several employees:
“There will always be people who critique the job someone else is doing—but I stand by my decision to take the long view for CAR, especially when racial and social justice organizations are under attack. I am proud of the many accomplishments of CAR’s talented and committed staff…”

On October 5, 2023, <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article/boston-university-launches-inquiry-into-ibram-kendis-center-for-antiracism-research-after-complaints-layoffs/24057" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Campus Reform</a> reported the university’s probe into CAR that would “focus on the center’s work culture and financial management” after several complaints were published by the <a href="https://www.bostonglobe.com/2023/09/21/metro/i-had-take-long-view-ibram-x-kendi-defends-management-embattled-research-center/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Boston Globe</a>.” Campus Reform said, “[E]mployees complained about dysfunction that hindered decision making, such as difficulty scheduling meetings with Kendi…”
In an interview with the Boston Globe, Kendi claimed that the layoffs “represent a strategic shift from operating as a high-growth startup pursuing many different projects…to becoming the world’s first residential fellowship program for antiracist intellectuals.”
In November, <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/kendis-antiracist-center-mostly-fired-black-and-latino-employees-analysis/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The College Fix</a> conducted a formal review and found that Kendi fired “four black employees, four Hispanics, two Indians, one Asian and one Middle Eastern employee.”
The College Fix concluded, “One reason may be that the center was more inclined to hire non-white staff from the beginning. But according to Kendi, any policy that results in racial disparities flows from and is proof of racism.”
On November 7, the Boston Globe <a href="https://www.bostonglobe.com/2023/11/07/metro/boston-university-audit-ibram-kendi-antiracist-center/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> that Boston University’s internal audit—a review of CAR’s $40 million portfolio—showed no misappropriation or mismanagement of funds.

Cashin Fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University</a>. Dr. Kendi claims that racism is deeply embedded in American institutions and that every white American benefits from racism, regardless of their actions. During one event hosted by Google, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEjpbDSoBCA&amp;t=2078s&amp;ab_channel=TalksatGoogle" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Kendi claimed that anyone raised in America is raised to be racist.</a>

His speaking engagements are often very lucrative; the University of Michigan paid Dr. Kendi <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/university-michigan-ibram-x-kendi-20000-virtual-discussion" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$20,000 for a virtual, one-hour speech on antiracism.</a>
During another lecture for the <a href="https://www.aspeninstitute.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Aspen Institute</a>, Dr. Kendi <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzuOlyyQlug" target="_blank" rel="noopener">defined racism as ANY policy—or support for a policy—in which the outcome results in racial disparities</a>.

He would go on to explain the elimination of racial disparities by adopting far-Left policies—such as wealth redistribution to alleviate the racial income gap and universal health care— are examples of how one can be “anti-racist.”
Dr. Kendi wrote in “How to Be an Antiracist” that “<a href="https://www.city-journal.org/how-to-be-an-antiracist" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the ultimate solution to racism or racial discrimination is discrimination itself</a>”.

Proposed policies in the amendment include:

Opposed to interracial families, Dr. Kendi has alleged that adopting a child from a separate race doesn’t make you “not racist.” During the 2020 confirmation hearings of Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett—who has adopted two children from Haiti—Dr. Kendi insinuated that families like the Barretts—whom he describes as “white colonizers”—<a href="https://nypost.com/2020/09/28/bu-professor-suggests-amy-coney-barrett-is-a-white-colonizer/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">only adopt black children in a racist attempt to “civilize them.”</a>

Kendi</a>—Boston University professor, political commentator and author of “<a href="https://www.ibramxkendi.com/how-to-be-an-antiracist/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">How to be Antiracist</a>”—allegedly fired racial minorities from the Center of Antiracist Research (CAR).

Kendi, who founded CAR after the death of George Floyd, published a statement on Twitter explaining his decision to terminate several employees:
“There will always be people who critique the job someone else is doing—but I stand by my decision to take the long view for CAR, especially when racial and social justice organizations are under attack. I am proud of the many accomplishments of CAR’s talented and committed staff…”

On October 5, 2023, <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article/boston-university-launches-inquiry-into-ibram-kendis-center-for-antiracism-research-after-complaints-layoffs/24057" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Campus Reform</a> reported the university’s probe into CAR that would “focus on the center’s work culture and financial management” after several complaints were published by the <a href="https://www.bostonglobe.com/2023/09/21/metro/i-had-take-long-view-ibram-x-kendi-defends-management-embattled-research-center/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Boston Globe</a>.” Campus Reform said, “[E]mployees complained about dysfunction that hindered decision making, such as difficulty scheduling meetings with Kendi…”

In an interview with the Boston Globe, Kendi claimed that the layoffs “represent a strategic shift from operating as a high-growth startup pursuing many different projects…to becoming the world’s first residential fellowship program for antiracist intellectuals.”

In November, <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/kendis-antiracist-center-mostly-fired-black-and-latino-employees-analysis/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The College Fix</a> conducted a formal review and found that Kendi fired “four black employees, four Hispanics, two Indians, one Asian and one Middle Eastern employee.”

The College Fix concluded, “One reason may be that the center was more inclined to hire non-white staff from the beginning. But according to Kendi, any policy that results in racial disparities flows from and is proof of racism.”

On November 7, the Boston Globe <a href="https://www.bostonglobe.com/2023/11/07/metro/boston-university-audit-ibram-kendi-antiracist-center/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> that Boston University’s internal audit—a review of CAR’s $40 million portfolio—showed no misappropriation or mismanagement of funds.

Dr. <a href="https://www.bu.edu/antiracism-center/profile/ibram-x-kendi/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ibram X Kendi</a> is the Andrew W. Mellon Professor of Humanities at <a href="https://www.bu.edu/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Boston University</a>. He also served as the <a href="https://www.radcliffe.harvard.edu/people/ibram-x-kendi" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Frances B. Cashin Fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University</a>. He is best known for authoring the New York Times bestseller, “<a href="https://www.ibramxkendi.com/how-to-be-an-antiracist/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">How to Be an Antiracist</a>,” along with “<a href="https://www.ibramxkendi.com/stamped" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Stamped from the Beginning</a>” and “<a href="https://bookshop.org/books/antiracist-baby-board-book/9780593110416" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Antiracist Baby</a>.” He further serves as the Director and founder of the <a href="https://www.bu.edu/antiracism-center/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Center for Antiracist Research</a> at Boston University.

Dr. Kendi claims that racism is deeply embedded in American institutions and that every white American benefits from racism, regardless of their actions. During one event hosted by Google, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEjpbDSoBCA&amp;t=2078s&amp;ab_channel=TalksatGoogle" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Kendi claimed that anyone raised in America is raised to be racist.</a>

His speaking engagements are often very lucrative; the University of Michigan paid Dr. Kendi <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/university-michigan-ibram-x-kendi-20000-virtual-discussion" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$20,000 for a virtual, one-hour speech on antiracism.</a>

During another lecture for the <a href="https://www.aspeninstitute.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Aspen Institute</a>, Dr. Kendi <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzuOlyyQlug" target="_blank" rel="noopener">defined racism as ANY policy—or support for a policy—in which the outcome results in racial disparities</a>.

He would go on to explain the elimination of racial disparities by adopting far-Left policies—such as wealth redistribution to alleviate the racial income gap and universal health care— are examples of how one can be “anti-racist.”

In January 2023, Copeland published an article in the <a href="https://www.bostonglobe.com/2023/01/03/opinion/art-denial/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Boston Globe</a> titled, “The art of denial: How racism deniers obscure the reality of racism, minimizing its significance.” He claims that racism denial is a “political strategy” perpetuated by those who “attempt to convince people racism is no longer an issue.”
Drawing on Ibram X.
