According to <a href="https://speechfirst.org/bias-reporting-systems/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">SpeechFirst</a>, students are “encouraged to report ‘bias incidents’ to these boards (or teams) in the name of inclusion and tolerance, but it’s often unclear what the school considers ‘bias’ in the first place. Overly broad or vague definitions of bias put all kinds of speech at risk of being reported – even unpopular speech which is protected by the First Amendment.”

Denied Turning Point USA Chapter

Colorado State University receives a &#8220;D&#8221; grade for In-State Tuition for Illegal Immigrants. On its &#8220;Undocumented, DACA and ASSET Students&#8221; <a href="https://financialaid.colostate.edu/asset/#:~:text=Residency,tuition%20at%20Colorado%20State%20University." target="_blank" rel="noopener">page</a>, the university states that &#8220;Colorado’s Advancing Students for a Stronger Tomorrow (ASSET) bill, <a class="fancy-link" href="https://leg.colorado.gov/sites/default/files/2022a_1155_signed.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">HB22-1155</a>, allows students who are undocumented and who meet all eligibility requirements to qualify for in-state tuition at Colorado State University.&#8221;
The eligibility requirements are listed below:
&#8220;To qualify for Colorado ASSET in-state tuition, a student who is undocumented must have:&#8221;

In-State Tuition for Illegal Immigrants

Colorado State University receives a “D+” grade for the Amount of Foreign Funding Received. According to <a href="https://sites.ed.gov/foreigngifts/">College Foreign Gift Reporting</a>, the total amount of foreign funding the university has received is $4,717.48 per current undergraduate student. Oftentimes, foreign parties will convey their influence by funding certain courses, activities, professors, and organizations on campus. In certain cases, universities must abide by restrictions dictated by foreign parties to receive funding. In addition, there have been <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/top-universities-took-billions-in-unreported-foreign-funds-u-s-finds-11603226953">reports</a> that claim that universities underreport foreign funding. The figure above only takes into account reported foreign funding.

Colorado State University receives a &#8220;D&#8221; grade for Required Equity, Diversity, or Inclusion Courses for Students.  &#8220;Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion&#8221; is <a href="https://catalog.colostate.edu/general-catalog/all-university-core-curriculum/aucc/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">listed</a> as a &#8220;Fundamental Competency.&#8221; Some courses listed in this category are  &#8220;Environment, Food, and Social Justice&#8221; and &#8220;Introduction to Ethnic Studies.&#8221; However, not all courses in the Fundamental Competency category are necessarily left-leaning or concerned with diversity, equity, or inclusion. For example, &#8220;Geography of Europe and the Americas&#8221; doesn&#8217;t appear to be such a course. Yet, the amount of left-leaning courses listed in this category greatly outweigh the unbiased ones.

Across the United States, students who graduate with STEM degrees tend to earn more on average than their other student counterparts.

According to the <a href="https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2018/crime-in-the-u.s.-2018" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Federal Bureau of Investigation</a>, the Fort Collins, Colorado violent crime rate was 233.11 per 100,000 people in 2018, lower than the 2018 national average of 380.56 per 100,000 people. While campus safety is of utmost importance, it is also pertinent to consider the crime rates of the surrounding town or city as students often tend to venture off campus, especially after their freshman year.

Crime Rates in University City or Town

Colorado State University receives a &#8220;C&#8221; grade for Required Western Civilization Courses for Students. Students are required to take three credits in the &#8220;Historical Perspectives&#8221; <a href="https://catalog.colostate.edu/general-catalog/all-university-core-curriculum/aucc/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">core curriculum</a> category, which includes optional western civilization courses. These courses, however, can be bypassed for non-western courses. Some of the courses are:

<a href="https://www.academicimpressions.com/instructors/naomi-nishi/#:~:text=Naomi%20W.,30%20papers%20at%20national%20conferences." target="_blank" rel="noopener">Naomi Nishi</a> is the Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University.
In an article titled “<a href="https://cvmbs.source.colostate.edu/understanding-racial-microaggressions/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Understanding racial microaggressions</a>,” Nishi writes, “we understand that race as a sociopolitical construct was developed and promoted by European colonizers as a means to justify their superiority as well as their violence against people of color.” She continues, “Given this race creation/development story, we understand that racism is tied explicitly to white supremacism, and only oppresses and harms people of color.”
When discussing microaggressions, Nishi adds:
“Another element I want to highlight is that microaggressions are often unconscious or unintentional. This means that the intention of the (usually white) person wielding the microaggression doesn’t matter.” 
She advises that “ if someone points out a racial microaggression that you’ve used, be sure not to get defensive and/or invalidate their experience. Instead, apologize, and promise to learn and do better.”
In 2021, Nishi published a research paper titled “<a href="https://eric.ed.gov/?id=EJ1319239" target="_blank" rel="noopener">White Hoarders: A Portrait of Whiteness and Resource Allocation in College Algebra</a>.” The abstract says the study uses “‘Critical Race Theory,’ ‘Settler Colonialism,’ and ‘Critical Whiteness Studies’ to frame how property is recognized only under the auspices of whiteness.”
It also states the study uses “portraiture to depict how ‘white hoarding,’ as the co-option of resources by white students, marginalizes and disenfranchises Students of Color.”
In an article titled, “<a href="https://cvmbs.source.colostate.edu/creating-a-safe-zone/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Creating a Safe Zone</a>,” Nishi discusses a recent “safe zone” training she participated in through the Pride Resource Center and its implications for the veterinary world. She writes, “In veterinary medicine, we should be careful about our language. Words like “male” and “female” are appropriate when referencing the sex of animals, but often inappropriate when referencing people’s gender.”
In another post, she discusses <a href="https://cvmbs.source.colostate.edu/stereotype-threat/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stereotype threat and stereotype lift</a>. She states, “Stereotype threat is a phenomenon where if a person is being assessed in an area where their group is stereotyped as performing poorly, that person experiences a higher amount of stress as they try to prove the stereotype wrong.”
She defines stereotype lift as the opposite and says it only affects “dominant identities.” When someone with a dominant identity is aware of negative stereotypes of other groups, she claims they perform better because of feelings of superiority.
