Loyola University &#8211; Chicago receives a “B” grade for the Amount of Foreign Funding Received. According to <a href="https://sites.ed.gov/foreigngifts/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">College Foreign Gift Reporting</a>, the total amount of foreign funding the university has received is $969 per current undergraduate student. Oftentimes, foreign parties will convey their influence by funding certain courses, activities, professors, and organizations on campus. In certain cases, universities must abide by restrictions dictated by foreign parties to receive funding. Loyola University &#8211; Chicago receives an “F” grade for Boycotting, Divesting, and Sanctioning Israel (BDS). According to the <a href="https://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/campus-divestment-resolutions" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jewish Virtual Library</a>, since the start of the 2013-14 school year, the university’s student body has introduced two pieces of legislation that would require the university to divest from any Israeli company and from companies that do business with Israel. One piece of legislation passed while one failed.
Introducing these types of legislation often puts a target on Jewish and pro-Israel students and communities, fostering an environment vulnerable to antisemitism.

Loyola University &#8211; Chicago receives a “C” grade for Required Western Civilization Courses for Students. While the <a href="https://www.luc.edu/core/histknowcoursesub-first.shtml" target="_blank" rel="noopener">university</a> does not have a required Western Civilization course or category of courses, its required Tier I Foundational Courses category does list two courses on Western Civilization that can be taken to fulfill the requirement. The courses are:

Hermansen said after the election of Donald Trump that professors should give Muslim students extra time on assignments if they requested; &#8220;“If a Muslim student requests extra time to complete assignments, it may be because they feel threatened&#8221; she said at a post-election discussion. Additionally, Hermansen has a problem of intolerance towards people critical of Islam, as she once backed out of a panel with Islam critic Robert Spencer.  The event was supposed to be about different perspectives on Islam, but Hermansen apparently was offended that it would actually involve different perspectives on Islam.

According to her university profile, her research “explores digital consumer culture: how digital technologies and social media platforms … present new opportunities for consumers to express their identities and navigate life transitions.”
Drenten wrote an article <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/clean-pantries-are-racist-and-sexist-loyola-marketing-scholar/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">criticizing a social media trend</a> where users post videos of different ways to stock and organize pantries. She says she’s noticed “an uptick in glamorized, stylized and fully stocked pantries on TikTok and Instagram, giving rise to a content genre I dub ‘pantry porn.’”
Drenten believes the <a href="https://theconversation.com/pantry-porn-on-tiktok-and-instagram-makes-obsessively-organized-kitchens-a-new-status-symbol-197517" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pantry is a “modern-day status symbol,”</a> writing:
“Cleanliness has historically been used as a cultural gatekeeping mechanism to reinforce status distinctions based on a vague understanding of ‘niceness’: nice people, with nice yards, in nice houses, make for nice neighborhoods.” 
However, she continues:
“What lies beneath the surface of this anti-messiness, pro-niceness stance is a history of classist, racist and sexist social structures. In my research, influencers who produce pantry porn are predominantly white women who demonstrate what it looks like to maintain a ‘nice’ home by creating a new status symbol: the perfectly organized, fully stocked pantry.” 
Drenten continues by noting the work of restocking the pantry falls to women who may have to “work overtime” to achieve the perfectly organized pantry. She concludes by saying:
“Pantry porn, as a status symbol, relies on the promise of making daily domestic work easier. But if women are largely responsible for the work required to maintain the perfectly organized pantry, it’s critical to ask: easier for whom?”
