Mandated Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity Training for Staff

San Francisco State University receives an “F” grade for having a Bias Response Team. Bias Reporting Systems and Response Teams are systems or teams of faculty, staff, and sometimes law enforcement.
According to <a href="https://speechfirst.org/bias-reporting-systems/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">SpeechFirst</a>, students are “encouraged to report ‘bias incidents’ to these boards (or teams) in the name of inclusion and tolerance, but it’s often unclear what the school considers ‘bias’ in the first place. Overly broad or vague definitions of bias put all kinds of speech at risk of being reported – even unpopular speech which is protected by the First Amendment.”

Out of a list of 20 clubs (10 from each side), <a href="https://sfsu.campuslabs.com/engage/organizations" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the university</a> has one right-leaning club compared to one left-leaning club. Turning Point USA is the one right-leaning club. The Young Democratic Socialists of America is the one left-leaning club.

San Francisco State University receives a “D” grade for In-State Tuition for Illegal Immigrants.
The <a class="waffle-rich-text-link" href="https://drc.sfsu.edu/AB-540/SB-68-Information" target="_blank" rel="noopener">university&#8217;s</a> Dream Resource Center says:
&#8220;Assembly Bill 540 is a law that was passed in 2001 by the California legislature. The laws were written for students who are either undocumented or U.S. Citizens/Permanent Residents but are considered non-residents for tuition purposes. If these students meet specific requirements, such as attending a California public institution of higher learning, they are able to pay resident fees instead of non-resident fees.&#8221;

In-State Tuition for Illegal Immigrants

San Francisco State University receives an “A-” grade for the Amount of Foreign Funding Received. According to <a href="https://sites.ed.gov/foreigngifts/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">College Foreign Gift Reporting</a>, the total amount of foreign funding the university has received is $102.74 per current undergraduate student. Oftentimes, foreign parties will convey their influence by funding certain courses, activities, professors, and organizations on campus. In certain cases, universities must abide by restrictions dictated by foreign parties to receive funding. In addition, there have been <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/top-universities-took-billions-in-unreported-foreign-funds-u-s-finds-11603226953" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reports</a> that claim that universities underreport foreign funding. The figure above only takes into account reported foreign funding.

San Francisco State University receives an “F” grade for Required Equity, Diversity, or Inclusion Courses for Students.
Students are <a class="waffle-rich-text-link" href="https://bulletin.sfsu.edu/undergraduate-education/general-education/lower-division/#areaftext" target="_blank" rel="noopener">required</a> to complete one 3-credit course within an &#8220;Ethnic Studies&#8221; requirement. Courses include, but are not limited to:

<li>&#8220;Gendered Borders: Latinas and Globalization&#8221;</li>

The university also has an &#8220;SF State Studies Requirement.&#8221; The <a class="waffle-rich-text-link" href="https://bulletin.sfsu.edu/undergraduate-education/sf-state-studies/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">description</a> reads, &#8220;SF State Studies courses fulfill graduation requirements but do not have specific unit requirements. They are meant to ensure that students take at least one course in areas that the campus feels are important to graduates of our University.&#8221; There are currently four graduation requirements that students must meet:

San Francisco State University receives a “C” grade for Segregated Dormitories, Graduations, and Classes. The university has three segregated <a href="https://commencement.sfsu.edu/graduation-celebration" target="_blank" rel="noopener">convocations</a> (Dreams Beyond Borders, Noche De La Familia (LATINX), Lavender Graduation), and one segregated dorm (<a href="https://reslife.sfsu.edu/livingoncampus" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Afrocentric</a>).
The university does not appear to have any courses segregated by race, sexuality, or gender identity.

San Francisco State University received a “B+” grade for Protests and Canceling Speakers. Since 2021, the university had two incidents. In 2023, <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article?id=21906" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Riley Gaines</a> was attacked while at San Francisco State University. She had to be barricaded in a room as protestors held her hostage for three hours. Several weeks later, commentator <a href="https://twitter.com/JonnyRoot_/status/1648135624841662464" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jon Root</a> had to move an event off campus after the university canceled the venue for his speech.

&#8220;Effective April 6, 2023, COVID-19 vaccinations are recommended as a safety measure to help prevent serious illness, but CSU employees will no longer be required to be fully vaccinated.&#8221;

According to the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data Center (<a href="https://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/use-the-data" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IPEDS</a>), as of 2020, 3.77% of the current undergraduate student population graduated with a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) degree. Across the United States, students who graduate with STEM degrees tend to earn more on average than their other student counterparts.

San Francisco State University receives a “C-” grade for Crime Rates in the University City or Town. According to the <a href="https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2018/crime-in-the-u.s.-2018" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Federal Bureau of Investigation</a>, the San Francisco, California violent crime rate was 690.89 per 100,000 people in 2018, much higher than the 2018 national average of 380.56 per 100,000 people. While campus safety is of utmost importance, it is also pertinent to consider the crime rates of the surrounding town or city as students often tend to venture off campus, especially after their freshman year.

San Francisco State University receives a “C” grade for Required Western Civilization Courses for Students.

<a href="https://amed.sfsu.edu/content/rabab-abdulhadi-profile">Rabab Abdulhadi</a> is a professor of Arab &amp; Muslim Ethnicities &amp; Diasporas and  Race &amp; Resistance Studies at San Francisco State University.
Abdullah is <a href="https://canarymission.org/professor/Rabab_Abdulhadi">regarded</a> as a virulently anti-Israel activist. At a UCLA lecture, she equated support for Israel with <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=13849">white supremacy</a>, and reportedly asked Jewish Israel supporters to distance themselves from “white supremacy.”
In 2018, Abdullhadi declared that Zionists are not welcome at SFSU in a lengthy Facebook <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=13849">post.</a>

Abdulhadi was already known for her <a href="https://www.meforum.org/5233/abdulhad-hamas-universities">attempts to establish ties</a> between San Francisco State University with universities in the West Bank, which has a strong presence of the terrorist group, Hamas.
Abdulhadi drew further outrage when she announced her chairmanship of<a href="https://nypost.com/2020/09/24/zoom-scraps-event-featuring-palestinian-hijacker-leila-khaled/"> a panel including Leila Khaled</a>.  A member of a <a href="https://www.state.gov/foreign-terrorist-organizations/">US-designated terror organization</a>, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), Khaled hijacked numerous airplanes in the 1970s on behalf of the PFLP. Dismissing criticism of the events, Abdulhadi claimed the pushback was <a href="https://www.meforum.org/campus-watch/61720/sfsu-professor-goes-on-antisemitic-rant-about">organized by a supposed “Jewish Caucus.”</a>
