According to her university profile, her areas of expertise include racial microaggressions, Racial Battle Fatigue, and gendered-racism.
Her work “is grounded in Critical Race Theory and Critical Race Feminism and acknowledges the roles that race and racism play in the lives of Black students.” <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/professor-demands-black-people-special-paid-time-off-deal-fatigue-trauma-systemic-racism" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fox News</a> defines Critical Race Theory as “an ideology and lens that holds America’s institutions are systemically racist and views individuals in an oppressor vs. oppressed narrative.”
In February 2023, Jones published an article in <a href="https://www.timeshighereducation.com/campus/wheres-our-black-bereavement-leave" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Times Higher Education</a> where she argued that black people should get special bereavement leave and counseling services to deal with systemic racism. Jones writes:
“I am a proud educator who loves what I do. But before that, I am a Black woman. A Black woman who is expected to return to ‘business as usual’ on Monday after seeing a member of my community murdered on Friday.” 
Jones believes universities <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/03/05/illinois-professor-angel-jones-urges-bereavement-for-black-educators-to-process-racism-trauma/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">should offer counseling for black faculty</a> in order to fight “racial battle fatigue” (RBF), “a term coined by William Smith that refers to the psychological and physiological consequences of experiencing racism.” She writes:
“Free counseling services, by culturally competent counselors familiar with identifying and addressing RBF, should be available at all times, not just when our trauma has been televised.” 
She also believes black faculty should be given bereavement leave, saying:
“Some may have thought I was joking when I mentioned Black bereavement leave, but I wasn’t. We need space and time to grieve without having to explain or defend it.” 
Further, Jones says some people may just need a day off while others may need to work from home or have responsibilities taken off their plate completely.
