Overly broad or vague definitions of bias put all kinds of speech at risk of being reported – even unpopular speech which is protected by the First Amendment.”

&#8220;Recognizing that we live in a world informed by diverse historical and contemporary systems of value, meaning, power, and privilege; that various disciplines offer their own insights into these systems and the issues that arise from them; and that ethical participation in a global society requires that we understand and engage with these systems and issues actively and responsibly, all students complete courses in the following five categories. In selecting courses, students complete at least one course each in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. At least one course includes DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) and antiracist content.&#8221;
One course must be completed in Diversity, Pluralism, and Power. Learning objectives state:

SUNY Geneseo receives a &#8220;C&#8221; grade for Mask and Vaccine Mandates. SUNY&#8217;s vaccine <a href="https://www.geneseo.edu/covid" target="_blank" rel="noopener">policy</a> states:
&#8220;Per SUNY policy, the COVID-19 vaccine is not required to attend SUNY Geneseo. COVID-19 vaccinations are strongly encouraged, however.&#8221;

According to the <a href="https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2018/crime-in-the-u.s.-2018" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Federal Bureau of Investigation</a>, the Geneseo, New York violent crime rate was 48.88 per 100,000 people in 2018, much lower than the 2018 national average of 380.56 per 100,000 people. While campus safety is of utmost importance, it is also pertinent to consider the crime rates of the surrounding town or city as students often tend to venture off campus, especially after their freshman year.

<a href="https://www.geneseo.edu/math/macula" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Anthony Macula</a> is a Professor of Mathematics at the <a href="https://www.geneseo.edu/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">State University of New York at Geneseo</a> (SUNY-Geneseo). Dr. Macula has accused former President Donald J. Trump of embodying the “white power” movement, and labeled Trump voters as “civically irresponsible.”
Following the presidential victory of Donald J. Trump in November of 2016, Dr. Macula sent out an email—obtained by the Livingston County News—addressing the election to roughly 600 staff members at the university. In the letter, Dr. Macula <a href="https://www.thelcn.com/news/local/in-mass-email-suny-geneseo-professor-asks-trump-supporters-do-you-believe-in-white-power/article_9da767a7-ebeb-527d-b7cf-b50ffd2786c2.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">accuses Trump’s campaign of “legitimizing the white supremacy movement.</a>” He further demands to know the rationale of the email recipients who “irresponsibly voted for Trump.”

He continues,
“I would like to know why. Why have many of our local business, civic and political figures supported Trump? Who are you? Please explain your vote because this is not the same thing as voting for Romney, Bush, Dole or Reagan. In my mind, the “aid and comfort” that Trump has given to the white power movement is a grave and existential threat to our democracy. I just don’t see putting that aside for an economic policy position or some other social or personal affirmation found in a vote or [sic] Trump.”
Dr. Macula accuses Trump voters of “abandoning their civic responsibility” and prefaces that he will pose two questions towards Trump voters who receive his email:
“If you voted for Trump, my default opinion is that you abandoned your civic responsibility. Maybe you could convince me otherwise; I am open to talking. Let me know you voted for Trump. I will in turn ask you the questions below and we can go from there.”
Dr. Macula then asks Trump supporters what he considers to be “reasonable questions;” Do they believe in “white supremacy,” and do they believe in a “multiethnic democracy?”
“For all other Trump voters, I favor accountability first and understanding second. So, you voted for a candidate who embodies the white power movement and was enthusiastically endorsed by the Ku Klux Klan, neo-Nazis and other white supremacy groups. I think it perfectly reasonable to ask you the following questions:
&#8211; Do you believe in white power and the supremacy (of) the white race?
&#8211; Do (you) believe that a multiethnic and multicultural democracy and succeed?
“Yes” or “No.” I will respond accordingly.”
