According to <a href="https://und.edu/one-stop/tuition-fees/residency.html">the university</a>, &#8220;Residents of North Dakota and their dependents may attend a North Dakota state institution of higher learning and pay a special tuition rate that is lower than the non-resident rate.&#8221; The university explains the application process to gain North Dakota residence. However, the university does not provide in-state tuition to undocumented immigrants.

Jack Russell Weinstein

<a href="https://und.edu/directory/jack.weinstein#publications-and-presentations">Dr. Jack Russell Weinstein</a> is the Chester Fritz Distinguished Professor of Philosophy at the University of North Dakota. Weinstein vehemently opposes those whom he calls “open carry activists.” He believes their rights are not protected under the Constitution and he encourages people to avoid those who open carry. Dr. Weinstein even suggested that those who don’t want to be around people who open carry in restaurants should just leave without paying the bill. He says, “There really is no legitimate way of determining intent….Even if the people with guns are carrying a sign claiming to be activists (which they do not do), they could be lying, just setting us all up for slaughter.”

In December 2023, Mayo was featured in <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/music-education-remains-inherently-racist-scholars-say/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The College Fix article</a> “Music education ‘remains inherently racist’, scholars say.” Mayo and her colleague <a href="https://www.professorwatchlist.org/professor/erikaknapp" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Erika Knapp</a> were highlighted after <a href="http://act.maydaygroup.org/articles/KnappMayo22_3.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">co-authoring a paper</a> that discusses anti-racism in music education.
The College Fix said, “[We] contacted Knapp and Mayo to inquire about the intersection between critical race theory and music education, solutions to fix the admissions process, and if there were any plans to get their ideas implemented. They declined…and say they are ‘choosing to let our paper speak for itself…’”
In the <a href="http://act.maydaygroup.org/articles/KnappMayo22_3.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">paper</a>—entitled “Disrupting Racism in Music Education: Conceptualizing Admissions Processes Through the State and the War Machine”—Mayo and Knapp state:
“The music education field is and has remained predominantly white for the last 30 years. Silence about the dominance of whiteness remains pervasive in music education programs, despite a growing body of scholarship surrounding this topic. 
“In this article, we argue that the entire admissions process for United States music education programs, regardless of reform attempts and a sizeable body of academic scholarship, remains inherently racist.”
The College Fix <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/music-education-remains-inherently-racist-scholars-say/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pointed</a> out how Mayo and Knapp believe music education faculty “need to act as a war machine by ‘engaging in anti-racism’ and ‘understanding that disruption needs to occur on both the individual and systemic level.’”
