The University of Southern California (USC) is a private, research university that enrolls just under 50,000 students across more than 120 degrees. USC is located just a few miles from downtown Los Angeles, California’s beaches, and numerous National Forests.
University athletes, known as the “Trojans,” compete as part of one of the most successful <a href="http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/champs_records_book/Overall.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">athletic programs</a> in the country. The school boasts 107 NCAA Team Championships, 412 Individual Championships, <a href="https://global.usc.edu/usc-athletes-win-21-medals-including-u-s-university-best-11-golds-at-2020-tokyo-olympics/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">326 Olympic medals</a>, and over <a href="https://www.pro-football-reference.com/schools/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">500 players have been drafted</a> by the NFL.
The university is further renowned for it’s academic prowess, claiming <a href="https://ahf.usc.edu/news-and-announcements/rhodes-scholar-reflects-on-journey/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">11 Rhodes Scholars</a>, <a href="https://ahf.usc.edu/all-fellowships/marshall-scholarship/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">12 Marshall Scholars</a>, <a href="https://www.provost.usc.edu/the-usc-faculty/faculty-distinctions/national-and-international-distinctions/nobel-laureates/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">10 Nobel laureates</a>, and <a href="https://www.provost.usc.edu/the-usc-faculty/faculty-distinctions/national-and-international-distinctions/macarthur-fellows/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">eight MacArthur Fellows</a>. Despite this, USC has been engulfed in numerous academic and admissions scandals over the past five years.
Dubbed the “<a href="https://apnews.com/article/north-america-ia-state-wire-ct-state-wire-boston-tx-state-wire-2450688f9e67435c8590e59a1b0e5b47" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Varsity Blues</a>” scandal, dozens of prominent attorneys, coaches, and TV stars were charged with bribing college admissions departments to enroll their sons or daughter. Donna Heinal, a former official in the athletics department, was <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/01/06/us/college-admissions-scandal-heinel-usc.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sentenced to 6 months</a> in prison after soliciting more than $1 million from parents. After receiving the money, Heinel would falsify the athletic records of applicants so they would be admitted.
In one of the most lurid cases, a Qatari Emir allegedly promised then-President C.L. Max Nikias—who was in the midst of a $6-billion fundraising campaign—a <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2020-07-16/qatar-prince-usc-ucla-la">sizable grant if the university admitted his son</a>, Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
Arriving in a private jet with a small army of chefs, assistants, and relatives, Al Thani rarely stepped foot on campus. He instead lived offsite in a $600-a-night hotel and often spent more than $50,000 a week on luxury cars, Laker&#8217;s suites, and trips to Las Vegas.
Because of his connections, Al Thani was allowed to violate numerous university academic standards with no repercussions. A USC graduate student completed his coursework and Al Thani was granted an exemption by the University from attending classes. When assignments were completed, Al Thani delivered the papers to his professors via personal courier in a bag containing a custom Rolex watch.
Despite this, USC still awarded Al Thani a Master’s Degree in Public Diplomacy. The donations from Qatar never materialized.

Mandated Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity Training for Staff

The University of Southern California receives an &#8220;F&#8221; grade for having a Bias Response Team. Response Teams are systems or teams of faculty, staff, and sometimes law enforcement. Students may submit a report via the <a href="https://uscbknpt.wufoo.com/forms/q212qq80aqhdf9/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bias Incident Reporting Form</a>, which is reviewed by the Chair of the Diversity, Anti-Racism, Inclusion and the Community Engagement Council.
According to <a href="https://speechfirst.org/bias-reporting-systems/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">SpeechFirst</a>, students are “encouraged to report ‘bias incidents’ to these boards (or teams) in the name of inclusion and tolerance, but it’s often unclear what the school considers ‘bias’ in the first place. Overly broad or vague definitions of bias put all kinds of speech at risk of being reported – even unpopular speech which is protected by the First Amendment.”

Bias Reporting System or Bias Response Team 

The University of Southern California receives a &#8220;D&#8221;  grade for the Ratio of Right-Leaning Clubs to Left-Leaning Clubs. Out of a list of 20 clubs (10 from each side), <a href="https://engage.usc.edu/club_signup" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the university</a> has one right-leaning club compared to six left-leaning clubs. Turning Point USA is the one right-leaning club. The LGBTQ+ Student Center, Planned Parenthood Generation Action, the Student Assembly for Gender Empowerment, Students for Justice in Palestine, Progressive Christians@USC, and the National Lawyers Guild are the six left-leaning clubs.

Denied Turning Point USA Chapter 

The University of Southern California receives an &#8220;F&#8221; grade for the Amount of Foreign Funding Received. According to <a href="https://sites.ed.gov/foreigngifts/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">College Foreign Gift Reporting</a>, the total amount of foreign funding the university has received is $31,864 per current undergraduate student. Oftentimes, foreign parties will convey their influence by funding certain courses, activities, professors, and organizations on campus. In certain cases, universities must abide by restrictions dictated by foreign parties to receive funding. In addition, there have been <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/top-universities-took-billions-in-unreported-foreign-funds-u-s-finds-11603226953" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reports</a> that claim that universities underreport foreign funding. The social sciences seek to explain the causes and consequences of a wide range of complex phenomena, including how individual and collective human action shapes and is shaped by economic organizations, political institutions, and social and cultural settings broadly understood. These phenomena include the role of gender, sexuality, race, class and other aspects of identity across time and settings in the United States and the world. Mask and Vaccine Mandates

According to the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data Center (<a href="https://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/use-the-data" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IPEDS</a>), as of 2020, 6.58% of the current undergraduate student population graduate with a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) degree. Across the United States, students who graduate with STEM degrees tend to earn more on average than their other student counterparts.

The University of Southern California receives a “C-” grade for Crime Rates in University City or Town. According to the <a href="https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2018/crime-in-the-u.s.-2018" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Federal Bureau of Investigation</a>, the Los Angeles, California violent crime rate was 747.59 per 100,000 people in 2018, higher than the 2018 national average of 380.56 per 100,000 people. While campus safety is of utmost importance, it is also pertinent to consider the crime rates of the surrounding town or city as students often tend to venture off campus, especially after their freshman year.

Crime Rates in University City or Town

The University of Southern California receives an “F” grade for Required Western Civilization Courses for Students.
All students must take at least <a href="https://catalogue.usc.edu/preview_program.php?catoid=8&amp;poid=7227" target="_blank" rel="noopener">two courses</a> categorized under the &#8220;Humanistic Inquiry&#8221; and &#8220;Social Analysis&#8221; categories. While some courses on Western Civilization are offered, they are vastly outnumbered by biased and left-leaning courses. Some of these include:

As <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=8518">reported</a> by Campus Reform, Chavez <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=8518">taught </a>a course called, “America, the Frontier, and the New West.”  The course description <a href="https://classes.usc.edu/term-20163/classes/amst/">states</a> that the class is an “Introduction to an interdisciplinary study of American political, cultural and social life with a particular emphasis on the Western United States as a region.” According to USC’s course <a href="https://classes.usc.edu/term-20163/classes/amst/">description</a>, the course also qualifies the satisfaction of the core curriculum requirement for undergraduate students.

According to Campus Reform, Chavez sent an email to her class, via her teaching assistant Julia Chea, <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=8518">ordering</a> students to refrain from using the term “illegal immigrant” on the course&#8217;s final exam. The email reads as follows,

According to the Washington Examiner, Chea then <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/red-alert-politics/professor-bans-phrase-illegal-immigrant-threatens-students-exposed">discovered</a> that students who received her email were sharing it on their respective social media accounts. She then sent out an additional email to the students in her class that read as follows,
“Dear students, NONE of you have my permission to screenshot emails sent to the class so that you may post them on Facebook. Not only is it in bad taste, but you would do well to avoid violating classroom and university policies regarding confidentiality. Your friend has ratted you out.”
In a <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=8518">statement </a>given to Campus Reform, an unnamed student who shared the initial email called the decree “just one of the many instances of anticonservative bias” at USC and represents an “attack on intellectual freedom and free speech.”

According to Campus Reform, Chavez sent an email to her class, via her teaching assistant Julia Chea, <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=8518">ordering</a> students to refrain from using the term “illegal immigrant” on the course's final exam. The email reads as follows,

According to the Washington Examiner, Chea then <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/red-alert-politics/professor-bans-phrase-illegal-immigrant-threatens-students-exposed">discovered</a> that students who received her email were sharing it on their respective social media accounts. She then sent out an additional email to the students in her class that read as follows,

“Dear students, NONE of you have my permission to screenshot emails sent to the class so that you may post them on Facebook. Not only is it in bad taste, but you would do well to avoid violating classroom and university policies regarding confidentiality. Your friend has ratted you out.”

In a <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=8518">statement </a>given to Campus Reform, an unnamed student who shared the initial email called the decree “just one of the many instances of anticonservative bias” at USC and represents an “attack on intellectual freedom and free speech.”

Assistant Professor of Education, <a href="https://marsal.umich.edu/directory/faculty-staff/charles-hf-davis-iii" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Charles H.F. Davis III</a>, once appeared on the Jesse Lee Peterson podcast to discuss race relations in America and the pro-Palestinian movement that was taking place on college campuses. 
In the following discussion from 2018, the host pointed out how Davis included several hashtags (#) on his <a href="http://hfdavis.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">website</a>, such as #FreePalestine and #FreethePeople. When asked why he did not include #FreetheJews on that list, Davis replied: 
“Well, I guess we could talk about in a particular context, and I think we have to think about what Jews we’re talking about. I’ve chosen to take those particular political stances based on the historical record, based on the social and political context that we find ourselves in today … 
“Just to be clear I’m very much opposed to anti-semitism in any particular form or fashion, but I wouldn’t want to conflate any of the [hashtags] that you just mentioned to suggest otherwise.”

Using the <a href="https://twitter.com/hfdavis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Twitter handle</a> “Palestine Will Be Free,” he also posted support for the pro-Palestinian campus protests that started in April 2024.

“Whiteness is an ideological construct … it’s a set of behaviors, beliefs, and practices that not only normalize the white way of seeing the world but white way of doing society. That structure has proven to be violent towards people of color … 
“So, I think that needs to be destroyed in order for the liberation of the people of color from white supremacy to take place. Now, to be sure, that is not to conflate whiteness with white people — although all white people do benefit from whiteness.”

When contacted <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/usc-professor-defends-tweet-promoting-violence-whiteness/">The College Fix</a> over his remarks, Davis responded, “To be clear, I am decidedly against whiteness as a social and political ideology, which systematically marginalize and disenfranchise people of color from opportunities for societal advancement. In addition, I am against the institution of policing, which has historically and continuously enacted racial terror, sexual violence, and economic exploitation against racial minorities, women and LGBTQ communities, and economically disadvantaged working-class people.”
When asked if any of these tweets might make students uncomfortable, Davis <a href="http://hfdavis.com/blog/an-interview-with-a-conservative">responded</a> that any discomfort experienced by his white students is a result of their “white fragility.” 
Davis had previously advocated for the right of students to disrupt conservative speakers on campus. In the wake of <a href="https://badgerherald.com/news/2016/11/17/conservative-pundit-ben-shapiro-lectures-to-turbulent-crowd-on-safe-spaces-freedom-of-speech/">protesters heckling</a> Ben Shapiro’s lecture at the University of Wisconsin Madison, school regents approved a <a href="https://www.chicagotribune.com/nation-world/ct-university-of-wisconsin-protest-punishment-20171006-story.html">policy</a> to suspend or expel students that purposefully disrupt events. Davis’s subsequent <a href="https://www.chicagotribune.com/nation-world/ct-university-of-wisconsin-protest-punishment-20171006-story.html">op-ed</a> at Inside Higher Ed argued that this only reinforced white supremacy: “To be clear, it is a decision that reinforces institutionalized white supremacy &#8212; and other oppressive forms of systemic power.” Davis argues that conservative speakers like Shapiro have hijacked the First Amendment to push “white supremacist agendas.”  
Davis’s website, which is listed by the University of Michigan on his biography, <a href="https://static1.squarespace.com/static/51ab9fa0e4b06a38e604420a/t/5edaf71d1ab0434751b2e960/1591408468354/HF+Davis+%E2%80%93%C2%A0EPK.pdf">advertises </a>that he has taught the issues of “ race, racism, and systemic oppression in education and society” to over “7,000 students, educators and institutional leaders.” The <a href="http://hfdavis.com/">home page</a> of the site also features links to organizations that advocate for the Black Lives Matter movement, abolishing the police, and boycotting the nation of Israel.

When contacted <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/usc-professor-defends-tweet-promoting-violence-whiteness/">The College Fix</a> over his remarks, Davis responded, “To be clear, I am decidedly against whiteness as a social and political ideology, which systematically marginalize and disenfranchise people of color from opportunities for societal advancement. In addition, I am against the institution of policing, which has historically and continuously enacted racial terror, sexual violence, and economic exploitation against racial minorities, women and LGBTQ communities, and economically disadvantaged working-class people.”

When asked if any of these tweets might make students uncomfortable, Davis <a href="http://hfdavis.com/blog/an-interview-with-a-conservative">responded</a> that any discomfort experienced by his white students is a result of their “white fragility.” 

Davis had previously advocated for the right of students to disrupt conservative speakers on campus. In the wake of <a href="https://badgerherald.com/news/2016/11/17/conservative-pundit-ben-shapiro-lectures-to-turbulent-crowd-on-safe-spaces-freedom-of-speech/">protesters heckling</a> Ben Shapiro’s lecture at the University of Wisconsin Madison, school regents approved a <a href="https://www.chicagotribune.com/nation-world/ct-university-of-wisconsin-protest-punishment-20171006-story.html">policy</a> to suspend or expel students that purposefully disrupt events. Davis’s subsequent <a href="https://www.chicagotribune.com/nation-world/ct-university-of-wisconsin-protest-punishment-20171006-story.html">op-ed</a> at Inside Higher Ed argued that this only reinforced white supremacy: “To be clear, it is a decision that reinforces institutionalized white supremacy -- and other oppressive forms of systemic power.” Davis argues that conservative speakers like Shapiro have hijacked the First Amendment to push “white supremacist agendas.”  

Davis’s website, which is listed by the University of Michigan on his biography, <a href="https://static1.squarespace.com/static/51ab9fa0e4b06a38e604420a/t/5edaf71d1ab0434751b2e960/1591408468354/HF+Davis+%E2%80%93%C2%A0EPK.pdf">advertises </a>that he has taught the issues of “ race, racism, and systemic oppression in education and society” to over “7,000 students, educators and institutional leaders.” The <a href="http://hfdavis.com/">home page</a> of the site also features links to organizations that advocate for the Black Lives Matter movement, abolishing the police, and boycotting the nation of Israel.

During a separate, Krasner bragged about his refusal to prosecute certain crimes in his jurisdiction—namely drug offenses—while in office. This decision has drawn criticism from prosecutors who accuse Krasner of failing to keep violent criminals off the street.

O’Conner was murdered by a career criminal, Hassan Elliot while serving an arrest warrant. Krasner’s office had previously released Elliot for drug possession, which was a violation of his parole, with no bail.
Dr. Armour further used the event to recruit for Krasner’s office. As part of his nationwide tour, Kranser used his platform to recruit Dr. Armour’s students to intern and eventually work in his office, which Dr. Armour enthusiastically supported.

Dr. Armour further used the event to recruit for Krasner’s office. As part of his nationwide tour, Kranser used his platform to recruit Dr. Armour’s students to intern and eventually work in his office, which Dr. Armour enthusiastically supported.

According to his <a href="https://www.marshall.usc.edu/personnel/shaun-harper" target="_blank" rel="noopener">university profile</a>, Shaun Harper is “University Professor of Business and Education, Provost Professor of Management and Organization, Clifford and Betty Allen Chair in Urban Leadership, [and] USC Race and Equity Center Executive Director” at the University of Southern California (USC) Marshall School of Business. Harper’s profile states that he “teaches MBA students and advises companies on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).”
In 2018, Harper authored a USC <a href="https://race.usc.edu/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Pub-2-Harper-Sports-Report.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">study</a> titled, “BLACK MALE STUDENT-ATHLETES AND RACIAL INEQUITIES IN NCAA DIVISION I COLLEGE SPORTS”. 
For the study, Harper states that “Statistics are also furnished for each individual university in the Power Five conferences,” and mentions that “the report concludes with implications for college and university presidents, athletics directors, conference commissioners, the NCAA, journalists, and Black male student-athletes and their families.”
According to TheGrio, Harper wrote an <a href="https://thegrio.com/2021/01/18/martin-luther-king-inconvenient-truths-white-people/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">article</a> titled “7 inconvenient truths white people must understand about Martin Luther King Jr.” Harper analyzes quotes by Martin Luther King Jr. which he believes are overlooked by white people in favor of the more popular quotes from the civil-rights figure. Moreover, he believes these quotes provide a call to action applicable to the current times. 
“King frequently called on white people to accept responsibility for the racial inequities they created, and to assume leadership for corrective action. Contemporary problems plaguing Black Americans are incontestable byproducts of slavery, Jim Crow, voter suppression, police brutality, and other acts of racial violence and exclusion. White people manufactured those. As King maintained, it continues to be their responsibility to right past and present wrongs.”
Harper claims “that the ways in which Donald Trump manipulated poor white people during his two campaigns and presidency undoubtedly would’ve frustrated King.” According to Harper, King “wanted whites and people of color to recognize how economic systems of oppression disadvantaged them both, and to understand that working together would significantly improve their chances of overthrowing engines of wealth inequity.”
Harper also claims that King “would want white Americans to know that the attack on the U.S. Capitol earlier this month [January 6, 2021] was an insurrection.”
Furthermore, regarding the January 6 riots at the U.S. Capitol in 2021, Harper says:
“It was a planned, organized, and violent rebellion. Disillusioned Trump supporters, most of them white, flew on airplanes and drove across states to attend. It isn’t the same as the mostly peaceful protests we saw in numerous cities last summer. The Capitol insurrection also isn’t the same as when frustrated Black people spontaneously (and at times unpeacefully) take to the streets following the miscarriage of justice.”

<a href="https://dornsife.usc.edu/profile/viet-nguyen/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Viet Thanh Nguyen</a> is the Aerol Arnold Chair of English and a Professor of English, American Studies and Ethnicity and Comparative Literature at the University of Southern California.
According to <a href="https://mondoweiss.net/2016/06/endorses-academic-cultural/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mondoweiss</a>, Nguyen “endorsed BDS and the cultural and academic boycott of Israel in support of Palestinian rights.” Nguyen stated the following regarding the Israeli/Palestinian situation:
“Always remember, never forget. These powerful words compel us to think about both the injustices of the past and the injustices of the present. One of those contemporary injustices that we struggle to remember is the Israeli occupation and the deprivation of Palestinian rights. For any of us concerned with justice, the imperative is clear: we must stand with the disempowered and the forgotten against militarism and the state.” 
 <a href="https://www.algemeiner.com/2020/12/23/latest-new-york-times-rant-about-israeli-settler-colonialism-is-seen-as-sign-of-mental-breakdown/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Algemeiner</a> featured Nguyen in an article about Israeli Settler Colonialism, in which Nguyen said that he “expresses hope that poets and novelists will tackle the topic of the Palestinians, rather than ‘flowers and moons.’” The Algemeiner also featured another statement of Nguyen’s: 
“What will 2021 bring forth from the literary world? Nguyen asks. He answers: “Hopefully more poems like Noor Hindi’s 2020 clarion call ‘Fuck Your Lecture on Craft, My People Are Dying,’ which simultaneously attacks M.F.A. culture and crosses the brightest red line in American politics: Palestine.”
Nguyen was a <a href="https://palestinewrites.org/participants-2022/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">participant</a> at the <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/09/20/upenn-hosting-antisemitic-literature-festival-featuring-speakers-who-said-death-to-israel-donned-nazi-outfit/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Palestine Writes Literature Festival</a>, which took place at the University of Pennsylvania, September 22–24, 2023. <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/09/20/upenn-hosting-antisemitic-literature-festival-featuring-speakers-who-said-death-to-israel-donned-nazi-outfit/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The New York Post</a> reports that the festival featured “speakers who have made ‘antisemitic’ comments, including ‘Death to Israel,’ and someone who has worn a Nazi-style uniform.” The attendance of these speakers at the festival has drawn criticism from pro-Israel audiences.
